Can I say: Please provide clear explanation of all the curves and symbols in the legend box, not in the plot box.
I mean to say that explanation should be given in the legend (under the graphic), not inside the plot (on the graph) itself. Is it understandable?

I would submit the graphic that is exactly what I wanted to see published.
Unfortunately, publishers have their own style guides, so they might change the format.
