Hi there, I'm writing my graduate thesis, and now I've finished writing its introduction. The title is "Phonetic Analyses and English Learning of Japanese Speakers". Could you have a look at it, review it, and see if there's any grammar mistake for me? It's about two pages long on Word. Thank you in advance.
"Phonetic Analyses and English Learning of Japanese Speakers" Introduction What is phonetics? What difficulties in regard to pronunciation do English learners whose mother tongues are not English have? Specifically, what ilk of problems do Japanese English learners frequently face when they converse in English? In this thesis, we will analyze, scrutinize and compare English and Japanese phonetics, aiming to discern how it is technically feasible for Japanese English learners to improve the proficiency of their English in terms of pronunciation. We first would have to accept the matter that, without the knowledge of phonetics, how to make the sounds of a language properly, it is scarcely realizable for second language learners to speak the language with flawless pronunciation. Human beings are an animal that is capable of making sounds in the mouth, speak, and communicate, whereas other animals such as dolphins, considered very intelligent, can communicate by sounds they produce, but the gamut of sound frequencies they can produce is not as wide as that of which humans can. This innate faculty of humans’ enables us to communicate in languages. However, it cannot be merely simplified: verbal communication can only occur under the law of phonetics. If one pronounces a sound that does not exist in a certain language in lieu of the proper sound, e.g. pronouncing “thrilling” as “sliling”, there would be occasions when native speakers of the language cannot understand their interlocutor. Therefore, the knowledge of phonetics is a factor that every single second language learner should attempt to gain in order to produce sounds properly, and successfully communicate with other people in their target languages. However, in junior high and high schools in Japan where English education takes place, the pronunciation theory has not been focused on and taught to the students because it is considered too technical and complicated, which could decelerate and interfere with their English learning. Even with this fact considered, one who speaks a second language could notice after a long period of learning and claim that it is inevitable to learn how to produce sounds in the language properly, because phonetics is an element that should first be taught. This can occur because knowledge and experience are factors that gradually grow in people’s mind, and are not easy to rebuild from the beginning once they have formed a shape. On the basis of this concept, we will give consummate attention to the field of study, and also address the issue in Japanese schools so as to discover a certain way to resolve it.
