review of literature writing

Hi,
This is pranav,
I am PhD student and going to write the review of literature but I am bite of afraid with english grammar.
So, my question is; what tense should be use for perfect review writing of already publish paper and if I will use indirect tense, it would be correct or not for explaining the some point of published paper and generally I saw people use present perfect tense for wring of review at place of past tense, is it correct for the explanation of already published article or paper.

thanks,
