Task 1: The bar chart below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over of three countries in 1980 and 2000 and prediction in 2030.

The chart illustrates the percentage of people aged 65 or older in the total population of three countries in 1980, 2000 and 2030. Generally, the proportion of elderly people has increased gradually over the past few decades, and will continue to do so in the future.

In the past, the year 1980, elderly people took up 10 percent of the total population in Canada. The figures were particularly higher for other countries, Germany and the UK, with 15 percent and nearly 14 percent respectively. 20 years later, the percentage showed a slight growth in three countries. While both Canada and the UK shared the same figure of 15 percent, Germany particularly hit the peak of 15 percent.

In the future, it is predicted that the percentage of people aged 65 and over will continue to rise. In 2030, predictably, the proportion of elderly people in Canada will surpass 20 percent. The growth is likely to be even more significant in Germany when the figure can be up to 25 percent, as it is predicted. And for the UK, the figure can probably hit 20 percent.
