Review ielts writing task 2

In high school programmes, it is suggested that free service for society should be required. While I accept that it would bring some obvious benefits to the whole community, I would argue that student's own choice should be put in priority.

On the one hand, the opinion that students are required to participate in unpaid community service would positively affect both them and the society. Thanks to voluntary service, pupils can have opportunities to develop their essential skills, become a well-rounded person and be able to lay the foundation for their future beyond school level. Also, community could benefit from those free and meaningful activities which are good for both people and the living environment.

On the other hand, it is notable that drawbacks of those free tasks put on children would definitely outweigh all the advantages mentioned above. Firstly, due to being forced, children obviously do not feel comfortable as a common sense. As a consequence, they will just finish those tasks in rough and carelessness, so that the true meaning of those activities will not be done sincerely as it has to be. Secondly, regarding the school and community, they are more likely to make use of student’s time and health, while their first priority is studying. This could be exemplified by a recent research that community services by students mushroomed rapidly and just a springboard for school to race educational achievements.

In conclusion, for all the reasons mentioned above, despite some certain benefits of unpaid society activity required at school, I totally believe that schools should let their students have their own choice whether take part in it or not.
