Revert to you later

Hi Teachers,

I often see the verb "revert" in emails used to mean "reply" as in "I will revert to you later." Is this grammatical?

Some people use it in emails thinking that it is more formal and business-like.
In American English, it is not using the word correctly, but it is not a serious infraction.
