Revert back

Hi,

I kept in touch with a native speaker through emails and he wrote: "I will revert back to you shortly."

As for my own experience, I saw this expression being used many times by native speakers in a more formal correspondence but other native speakers claim that it is downright wrong.

Could you help me with that?

Thank you.
