Vocabulary

reveal/disclose

Hello,
Can both verbs be used in the following sentences:
- Most of the people interviewed requested that their identity should not be disclosed/revealed.
- She refused to reveal/disclose the contents of the letter - I don't think that disclose would work here.
- Neither side revealed/disclosed what was discussed in the meeting.

What are the nuances in your opinion?

I see no difference in interpretation of disclose and reveal. Something or knowledge is closed and is then disclosed; or is veiled (hidden) and is then revealed. An identity, during a police interview, would be veiled (kept confidential).

Would disclose work in the three sentences above? I have to say that "reveal" sounds better to me in all three of them, because something is/remains hidden (as you have pointed out). What do you think?

Gene93What do you think?
Revealed is the more commonly used word and would work in all three. If we were at a circus, the announcer might say "all will be revealed" - yet that would spoil it if they did! I think Disclose is a more business related term.
