returning home
Please correct the second sentence grammatically. Please note it refers to schoolchildren who are going to their homes. Therefore, would it be right to say "retuning home" and not "returning homes"?:
This incident made the boys very sad. A few moments ago, they were very happy and now they were returning home with gloomy faces.
