Returned to (the place) Mother was

Father, Mother, Brother and I went to a beach. When we reached our destination, we found a shady spot under a tree to put our things. Mother read her storybook (there) while Father, Brother and I went to change into our swimming suits. After swimming for about half an hour, we returned to (the place) where Mother was to keep her company.
Are 'the place'  and 'there' necessary? Are there any errors in the passage?

Thank you very much.

It still makes sense if "the place" is omitted, although personally, I like it better with it in, especially if it is a written passage. However, when talking, I think it would most likely be left out. I would say it is personal preference what happens.

  • Using "Father, Mother, Brother" as titles is rather formal and not commonly used in this manner unless, well, it makes me think it is a children's story, I have seen it used then.

I would, however, put a comma after "...where Mother was, ...". Using "Father, Mother, Brother" as titles is rather formal and not common

Thank you very much, Jeannie.

Thank you also for your comments. Glad that there are no other errors in my few sentences.
