Resumed or will resume

Security at all UK airports has been tightened and flights cancelled, resulting in long delays and fears that the problems will hurt businesses.

The FTSE 100 fell more than 1% with shares in British Airways down 5%.

Analysts said that the costs to business and companies would depend on how quickly normal services resumed.

I think it would be better to write the last sentence of the above as follows:

Analysts said that the costs to business and companies would depend on how quickly normal services will resume.
This is some prediction. So the words 'will resume' is correct.

Analysts said that the costs to business and companies would depend on how quickly normal services resumed.

The analysts said, in direct speech, 'The costs to business and companies will depend on how quickly normal services resume.'

Let me ask you, please, how you would report this if the analysts spoke 30 years ago.

As I said, I could be wrong. There is no insistence on my part being right. I realized I tend to elaborate more than I should and thus expose myself. But that’s ok, I am learning as well. If we k

Hi again,

Analysts said that the costs to business and companies would depend on how quickly normal services resumed.

I was trying to address the tense. 'Resumed' is OK to report 'resume' from direct speech. Of course, you could also say 'would resume' to report 'will resume' from direct speech.

With regard to the word 'resume', it's OK
