Result or purpose

Hi,

'We turned the radio up so that everyone could hear the announcement.'

The above sentence can be 'purpose or result',a ccording to a grammar reference.

My question : If a comma was to be added:'We turned the radio up, so that everyone could hear the announcement', does the it affect the adverbial clause and causes it to be 'result' only?

Thank you.

No, the comma is not that versatile; it merely indicates unrestrictiveness.
