"result in" and "lead to"

(1) The resistance to Pinochet's regime took many forms and resulted in the death, torture and exile of thousands of activists during his 17 year long dictatorship.

(2) If Judas' betrayal led to the death of Jesus and if Judas was sentenced to eternal damnation in hell for those actions, does that mean that Judas has suffered more than Jesus for humanity's sins?

These two sample sentences have been taken from the internet. My question is:

Are "result in" and "lead to" mutually exchangeable?

It would seem so. I'm not sure that they are exchangeable in every situation, but they are in your examples, and I can't think of any counter-examples.
