Restruct the sentence

Could you please tell me whether this sentence is ok to go or needs to be restructured. As for me, it's very floppy.
Here it goes: The neutrons have come to play a dominating role in the frontier research carried out with neutrons, and in all likelihood this is going to be even more so in future applications of neutron scattering technique. Thanks.

It need to be rewritten, mostly because it does not seem to mean anything. Neutrons are important for neutron research, and in the future they will be even more important? What are you trying to say?

It's like saying neutrons are important for neutrons. Therefore, restructuring the sentence would not make it any less awkward. Now, if something else was important for research with neutrons, like laser fusion technology for instance, the sentence would make a whole lot more sense. (I'm totally making it up, I have no idea If laser fusion has anything to do with neutron research or not, just that

I'm totally confused here. I'm supposed to correct this sentence and I'm not sure how to do it.
I think the meaning if the following: cold neutrons are important in the research (what is "carreid out with neutrons", but let us forget about it), and in the future they are going to play even a more crucial role in the applications of neutron scattering technique.

Aha! Cold neutrons. You didn't say that before. Now we can try to make a little sense.
The sentence sounds like it was written by a non-native speaker.

Cold neutrons have come to play a prominent role in the frontier cutting-edge research carried out with neutrons, and in all likelihood this is going to be even more true in future app
