B is the best candidate, but I am not sure about the use of the present perfect for something which happened in the past. Does that many human societies caused little damage to the environmant in thepast show that they are still in harmony with the environment? Do you think the tense choice is OK?

seems like B indeed.

present perfect can be used for things which (have) happened in the past and are somehow related to the present, including to your present thinking of the issue/their consequences
