Rest Niggling Doubts

Excellent for laying to rest those niggling doubts.


"Rest" seems to be used figuratively, context leading me to interpret it as clear up[dispel, resolve]. Was I correct?

Merriam Webster dictionary just says:

"Lay (someone) to rest"is an expression meaning to bury their body after they are dead. Those niggling doubts are dead and buried.
