"responsibility to / for"

"He felt a sense of responsibility to support him."

I think that "He felt a sense of responsibility for supporting him." is better, or is there a meaning difference between to V and for V-ing there?

Thank you so much in advance,

In the general cases, I'd say that the "to V" form says what responsibility (duty) is felt to be incurred to do something in the future while the "for V -ing" form says what responsibility (sense of accountability; blame) is felt for having done something in the past.

I feel a certain responsibility to protect them from the harm that this unjust rumor could cause them.
