My dictionary defines it as 'concerning or appropriate to each of several individually'.



Consider this example.

The teacher had 10 students. He assigned a different topic to each student.

Each student had to prepare a speech on his/her resp

So i guess my example is wrong:

'The respective (concerned) topic'

It has to be topics?

So does that mean the word 'respective' can only be used for plural nouns or more than one noun with the use of the conjunction 'and'?

His respective topic is said, but Their respective topics seems to me more correct.
