Resigned on or of his own accord ?

Is it 'resigned on his own accord' OR 'resigned of his own accord' ??

I usually hear "of," but I don't think "on" would be incorrect. Google has it pretty close to a tie, if that means anything: 20,800,000 hits for "on his own accord" 23,900,000 hits for "of his own accord"
