resent vs hate

Could you please tell if these two words can be used interchangeably?

Thanks, Clive. But could you please explain more? e.g. I think "resent" is emotional too, and "hate" can have reason, too. I am still not sure, for instance in speaking, which one I should use. If I really hate something, I would say hate, and if it is annoying or in harmless level I still can say hate. My physical attitude and even the context can probably tell that it is serious or not. I don't

Normally involves a person that has aggrieved you in some ways. You resent something that a person has done.
eg I resent the fact that the boss promot
