Resent and re-sent

Is it correct to use resent when you mean re-sent?

I can't find the word resend in Oxford Advanced Learner, Cambridge Advanced Learner, Collins Cobuild, Longman and Macmillan, though I can find it in Merriam-Webster and OED.

Top answer

I would include the hyphen, to distinguish from the actual verb resent , to dislike.

It shows up in thefreedictionary. Unless it is part of a class assignment in an English class, I would use resend. Resent as the problem that it also means aggrieved. I would still use it in the past tense if the context made the meaning self evident, but maybe that is just me.

Re-sent for past tense. Re-send or resend for present tense, but really if resend isn't in typical use, I'd use re-send to eliminate all doubt. Best to use two words. I'm "sending again". :-).
