In theses, the word 'study' is an alternative to 'research'

e.g. a study on atom

e.g a research on atom

In this case of study, what do you call the researcher for the study?

research - researcher / study -studier?

'Studier' sounds odd. Technically, I'd say the word should be 'student', but in your context I'd stick with 'researcher'.

I don't remember hearing "research" used as a countable. Maybe I'm wrong. I would not say, "A research on the atom."

I'd still call the researcher for the study a researcher.

If the study is published, I'd call him the author; but I think you're looking for a term to apply while the study is still in progress.

A "studier" is simply one who studies for his own purposes
