What is the difference in meaning between the two above? Which is closer to this below? Is it impossible for the second to mean the one below?

It's an odd verb, because it is formed from the prefix (re-, again) and the root word search (look for).

So this is also possible:

I researched the local university libraries and the Internet to find out about the world's oldest language.
