Requesting professor for science fair research help
Hello. I am a 9th grader and am doing a science project. I want a professor to help me. Here is my draft letter. Can you give me advice on how to improve it. Thanks!!!
Dear Dr. , My name is Z and I am in ninth grade. I am participating in the Intel ISEF Science and Engineering Fair in March and will be conducting a research project on the treatment of cancer. Basically, I am going to research the antibodies cytokeratin and epCAM and see if they are more efficient in detecting circulating tumor cells together or alone. In order to conduct my project, I will research actual experiments done on the topic and compare the results of each study. I believe that my results will benefit many cancer patients, scientists, and researchers in fighting the complicated and deadly disease. I would greatly appreciate if you could allocate your time in helping me with my project, as I would get to learn more about cancer and its treatments from someone qualified and experienced. I hope in the future to become a researcher to find remedies for diseases, and to help many people who are struggling with their illnesses. This project is one of the many things that will help me to do so, and I greatly enjoy doing it; not only for what I hope will be my future career, but also for the benefit of the people in need of a cure. I understand that you are a researcher and professor at the University at Albany, and are researching the role of Vitamin D in breast cancer. I came across an article on ABC News saying you have found that when Vitamin D enters the cells, it triggers a death process. I find it very interesting that Vitamin D has a rather significant role in cancer and that you have been a researcher for more than 25 years. I look forward to hearing from you, and hope all is well. Sincerely,
