REQUEST LETTER (TASK 1 - IELTS GENERAL)

Thank you for reading and correcting this writing letter. May your day be blessed with happiness and peace of mind!

Topic: You paid a refundable deposit when you rented an apartment. You left the apartment in good condition but the landlord won't return your deposit.

Write a letter to the landlord. In your letter

  • explain why you are writing
  • ask for the return of your deposit
  • inform the landlord of possible legal action

You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write and addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear ...,

----------

Dear Mr. Smith,

I am Helen who rented your apartment before and returned it on December 01, 2020. Today I am writing to request for the return of the $1,000 deposit.

At the beginning when I telephoned your office to ask for the rental, I was told that when I rented your apartment, I had to pay $1,000 for the rent and an additional $1,000 deposit. The deposit would be returned if the apartment was vacated clean and undamaged. I agreed and we signed the contract. However, as of today I have returned the apartment to you for 10 days while your apartment was no breakages and no damage but I have not yet received a refund for my deposit ($1,000).

I respectfully request that you should return the deposit to me as soon as possible. I allow the longest execution period of the next 3 days. You may transfer it to my bank account - details of which are in the contract or send me cash at my office.

I do hope that after reading this letter, you will promptly refund the deposit to me. If not I will seek legal advice.

Yours faithfully,

To Helen
