REQUEST FOR MEANINGS OF BOLD WORDS

Hi Everyone!

It's requested to tell me the meanings of the followings bold words; the sentences followed by parenthesis and therein question mark indicate the expected meanings for which I am not sure of.

1. *But I didn't want him to know I'd been angling for a ride

3. You'll never make any money that way

5. *When I stood up, it gave out on me.

9. . *.... but considering how he'd probably react, I took the coward's way out (to kill oneself?)
