Hi, Does this example with the word correct for the word repudiated in my text?

to repudiate a suggestion / (shake off?)

"Long past" it is something that has passed? Thanks Emotion: smile

Again - if you check your dictionary you would see that "repudiate" means to refuse to accept or be associated with, not "shake off."
Here, the use of "long passed" means that the people in plural marriages of the 19th century are now dead.
