Hi, Basically, both of them have the same meaning: to try to prevent oneself from having or expressing a feeling or an emotion. In some cases, they are interchangeable. I don't know about the other places, but in mine, people just say suppress a smile .

I would say 'suppressed'. 'repressed' sounds like the mark of a psychological problem.
