Represent in the local materials

Hi,

...it developed an extraordinarily precise system of weights and measures, standardized across the empire, represented in the local materials at Lothal.

What does it mean by 'represented in the local materials '?

it seems 'represent' here is an intransitive verb.

But I look it up in my dictionary ,it appears to be a transitive verb.

and none of it fits here?

Would you please help me out?
