Reporting past events

Hi,

Is the following sentence correct? I am not sure if the use of ‘must be’ is appropriate here as I am reporting what was going through my mind yesterday.

When I saw them together in a room yesterday, I thought something must be going on.

Thanks,

MG.

Thanks MM. What do you think of this one?

To me, it suggests that the going on preceded your seeing.
