In "Scoop", the satirical novel about being a journalist written by Waugh, all the reporters know that something is happening somewhere that they should be reporting, but no-one knows how to get there. A BBC journalist recently compared his own situation (as a reporter working on the war in Iraq) with that in the book: he knows there is something happening somewhere but he doesn't know how to get there. This shows that the way in which news is manipulated is very evident in times of war.
