Reported speech with "these last few months"

I've been feeling awful these last few months.

Five hours later:

You: He said he'd been feeling awful these last few months (?)

I want to backshift but I don't know what to do with "these last few months". Can it stay as it is even in the reported sentence? I was told it couldn't.
