Reported Speech Question. Unit 7

Hi Teachers,

My question is how I can join both reported speech sentences in 'b' and 'd'. Because if it is with the verb 'anwser' we can use for example 'and added ...' to join them, but I don't know what to do with the verb 'thought'. Could you help solve this problem?

a) Coke thought, “I have to take the chance. This is the only place I can find warm clothes and food!”

b) Coke thought (that) he had to take the chance. That was the only place he could find warm clothes and food.

c) Coke thought, “Nobody can be this lucky. I found a jacket, a shirt, and some trousers.”

d) Coke thought (that) nobody could be that lucky. He had found a jacket, a shirt, and some trousers.
