Reported Speech 3

Hi,

Here is a reported speech followed by the direct speech of it, but what I can't understand is that why the reported one is in present perfect while the direct speech is in present perfect as well?
Shouldn't the reported speech be in past perfect?

Reported: She claimed never to have met him before.
Direct : No,I have certainly never met him before.

Thank you for your reply, but what do you mean by present simple? Would you clarify the point by an example?
In case of the mentioned example it is supposed to be like this:

She claims to meet him before.
Is that correct?
