Reported speech

Hi, I have a question about reporting time in reported speech.

In this sentence: 'Kenny went to the museum an hour ago,' his mother said to Tom.

Reported: Kenny's mother said to Tom that he had gone to the museum an hour earlier/previously.

2nd sentence: 'I've been writing this book for a year.' the son told his father.

Reported: The son told his father that he had been writing that book for a year.

Am I correct? Does the phrase 'for a year' need to be 'for over a year' ?

Thanks a lot for helping me out.
