Reported Speech

Please correct the below sentence, which I used in my yesterday's conversation with my wife. I wasn't sure if I had to use reported speach to answer her question, which was" How was your day at work.?

"A friend of mine called me this morning to tell me that he has a job for me." Should have I used a reported speech and said?

"A friend of mine called me this morning to tell me that he had a job for me."

Please help.

Backshifting is always correct: ... that he had a job for me.
Nevertheless, the job is no doubt still available to you, so it's equally appropriate to say: ... that he has a job for me.
