BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The purpose of this report is to show crucial factors which are believed to be considered in the career of teacher of English as a foreign language in Brazil.
OPPORTUNITIES AND PERSPECTIVES
It has been pointed out that the Brazilian market has shown a huge demand for professionals in the last five years. Such demand has been widely sustained by the advent of the great global sports events which a are about to be held in the years of 2014 and 2016 respectively: the World Cup and the Olympic Games.
Secondly, not only job satisfaction but also career mobility was given the highest levels of importance during the conference, albeit income has not presented an evolutionary change over the years. Nonetheless, teachers have tackled wages discrepancies developing partnerships developed amongst associations (Braz Tesol, Disal and others).
It has also been mentioned that social life and retirement seen to be their main concern due to the fact that the market itself is thought to be unstable. However, teachers have been awarded great opportunities in several segments such as companies, English for specific purposes, tutorials and translations enable them to plan a comfortable retirement. Furthermore, it is apparent that the great majority of teachers opt for a social life aimed at improving their cultural backgrounds. Such opinion has been expressed by many Brazilian teachers of English who are believed to be interested in travelling overseas.
COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
It is therefore felt that the world´s two premier sporting events which are about to be hosted in Brazil – the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic games (in Rio de Janeiro), are believed to be potentially attractive for teachers of English. Furthermore, as the country has a continental size, teachers shall have a wide range of job offers throughout the national territory. On the whole, market niches such as tourism, business and services are also an enormous market.
