Hy guys, I'll do the Bech exam next week, and I'd really appreciate if you could read through the report and the letter I wrote. More than on the content, I am concerned with the form and the grammar.
This is a report about given figures regarding three photocopiers.
This report is to analyze the costs for the purchase of one out of three different photocopiers and to suggest the best one.
Total cost of each machine is the sum of three components: the purchase price, the cost for warranty and the expected amount of running costs.
“CARDA” is the one with the highest expected total cost, that is $1900, but it allows the smallest initial investment: in particular running costs of $1200 count for more than 75% of the total, while the purchase price plus the warranty is the lowest among the three choices.
On the other side, “SEBU” is the one with the highest initial investment. The sum of purchase price, $1000, and warranty costs ,$100, is the heaviest part in the expected total cost. To balance, it needs only $700 to account for running costs, which is the lowest amount among the threes.
Finally, “KD” is expected to cost as much as “SEBU”, but requires a more balanced investment over the first 2-year period. Initial cost (both purchase price and warranty cost) and running costs account each for one half of total expenditures, that is $1800.
Given the structure of costs, my suggestion is to purchase the last one, “KD” that allows a more constant stream of expenditures.
Your company has employed an outside consultant to organise an exhibition of your products, to be held next month. His work is unsatisfactory, and your boss has now decided that you should take over full responsibility instead.Your boss has asked you to write to the consultant to explain why he has been replaced. • Write the letter to the consultant: • giving two reasons why he has been replaced • telling him he will be paid for this work • asking him to brief you on the current situation.
Here is my letter:
Dear Mr. Robinson,
I am Fisher Black, assistant of Mr. Tronky, our director of sales, and I have been given the unpleasant job to contact you and inform you about the decision to quit our working relationship with you.
We noted that you had a lot of difficulties carrying on this project, and after a directors’ meeting, my boss has revised his strategy.
Next month’s exposition is tremendously important for our company, because is the annual occasion to meet our customers and understand their needs.
We need to strike them with new ideas and to grab their attention exposing our best products.
One of the point discussed in the last meeting was your job, and the directors found it not fully satisfactory. During the meeting, they stressed your lack of knowledge of the company’s vision.
However, our boss is aware that he shares with you the responsibility of this failure.
He asked me to explain you that actually the problem lies in his decision to appoint an outsider as a consultant for such a crucial event. This choice was believed to be the best for our customers, to give them an impartial point of view of the company, but it turned not to be the case.
We noted that give you all the necessary information has been difficult and the work has been cooled down by a number of technical problems.
My boss understood that you did your best in order to meet our expectations and he would like to make clear that he would define your behaviour as professional, and he confirms that you will be fully paid for the activity done so long.
Consistently with the change of strategy, he has chosen me as the person in charge of finishing your work. I am sure that you would agree that take over an already started work is not easy.
I would really appreciate if you could send me a report explaining me the work you have done, and I would like to discuss all the difficulties you have met so far.
You can contact my secretary to schedule an appointment.
I look forward hearing from you as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely,
Fisher Black
( names are fantasy name)
I'd be really grateful if you have any advice to give me for the exam. Thank you in advance .
