Strictly speaking you second sentence is more grammatically correct "I tried to contact her but she never replied". e. "I have tried to contact her but she never replies" - 'replies' being in the present suggests the 'try'ing took place in the past up until now -- > present perfect

The first sentence is certainly heard in conversational English but would be better with a present perfect at the first verb i.e. "I have tried to contact her but she never replies" - 'replies' being in the present suggests the 'try'ing took place in the past up until now
