What's the difference between 'Replicate' and 'duplicate'?
Thanks

It seems to me that bacteria and viruses and organisms in general replicate. On the other hand we use a copy machine to duplicate documents. What does your dictionary say?

Good question.

To duplicate means to make an exact copy, and usually refers to things such as documents

To replicate also means to make an exact copy of an object, but often refers to 3 dimensional objects, ways of doing things and biological processes etc.

"The building you see before you is an exact replica of the Tower of London" (This uses the noun 'replica')
