Repetitious vs. repetitive

Mr. A. writes a letter to me in which he has repeated things he has said before. Is his letter 'repetitive', 'repetitious' or neither?

Many thanks.

Top answer

His letter would be referred to as repetitious because it had repetitive comments in it. Comments being said repeatedly, perhaps in slightly different words, are repetitive. The overall nature of the letter becomes repetitious (annoying).
