rent

Hello,
Is it okay to ask "Hmm...this is a really nice flat. What's the rent?" or "How much is the monthly rent of your house?"
What do you normally say? I could say "How much money do you spend on rent?"

A direct question might well be regarded as impolite/nosy. If I knew the person quite well, I might ask "Are the rents around here reasonable?"

The person is obviously a friend of mine. What would you say if you wanted to know how much money he spends on rent each month?

I've told you. I'd ask indirectly, giving my friend the choice of whether to give a vague answer or tell me how much the rent was.

Fair enough. Let's change the context from talking to a friend to talking to a landlord. What would you ask the landlord/landlady, if you wanted to rent a flat/house/studio/etc?

"What is the price of (something)?" has been used in my presence in the past and therefore I thought that "What is the rent?" was acceptable too. Is it 100% wrong?

P.S. I have never used it.

No. "What is the rent?" is possible. You asked me what I'd say, and I told you. Other people might say different things.
