Renault Duster

Hi,

This (budget) car has been quite popular in Moscow recently...
My question is this:

What do you think of this name, DUSTER?
Is it a good name for an automobile?
Does it sound attractive/neutral/passable/disgusting to your ear?

MUSCOVITE Does it sound attractive/neutral/passable/disgusting to your ear? It sounds good in AmE slang, but I can imagine that it might have negative connotations for others.

Hi

It doesn't sound good to me. In UK English a duster is a piece of cloth that you use to wipe up dust

Or in the US, it's a sports player who sits on the bench, collecting dust

Or, in slang, it's a person who tries to get high by sniffing an aerosol that's used to clean dust from things

None of those sound good to me at all!

Hi again

To be fair to Renault, I assume they're trying for 'Once he gets going, you can't see him for dust'

That sort of works, but I'm not convinced

It's been used successfully in the US. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Duster
I once owned one of these. My nephew has one now.

Renault Duster is the least attractive (design-wise at least) car I have ever seen :-).
Many people believe it's extreemly ugly... so if you cannot see him for dust, you are just in luck (lol)

You must have missed the Pontiac Aztec, the first generation Subaru Tribeca, the first generation Honda Element and the Kia Soul.
