I would like to know what is exactly the difference between 'remind' and 'remember'

You remember something. One person reminds another of, or about, something. Also an event or a situation can remind you.

You remind me of my boss.
Please remind me to call Michael.
He reminded me about the meeting.

This is a good dictionary for such stuff.

That's what I thought.

but lets say I was sitting around and wondering and then something came into my mind.. the first time I met my b.f. for example. so then I say "I remembered the first time I met my b.f." but how do I seperate this from, just remembering , keeping in mind, that event.
