Vocabulary

remains and remnants

I have a question
Only thoroughly unpleasant people leave...........of their picnics to spoil the appearance of the countryside(A. Remains,B.Remnants)
I think that the answer is A because A is usually used but the key i was received is B. I think that they have the same meaning and i don't know how to distinguish. So could you help me
Thank you in advance

compa14 A is usually used I cannot agree. 'Remains' would naturally be preceded by 'the', which is absent from the sentence.

It is not really a good question, then, but 'remnants' is still a more usual answer. 'Remains' is too often associated with corpses.
