Hi, please proofread my response to the question: Is the 'right wing' in America's politics making religion a standard by which public policy is addressed and made? Is that an issue when the Constitution prohibits favoring one religion over another in public policy and the public sphere by the US Government? Remember, public policy is for all.
(The response will be posted in a forum where everybody in the class has to post one. So it doesn't need to be a full essay of introduction, body and conclusion. )
Religious views are very influential in debates over abortion, the death penalty, and environmental protection. The sets of beliefs vary across religions and all religious ideas influence how followers will act accordingly and in affairs of state . The issue of the interference of religion to public policy is best depicted in the first video by the results of the survey: How much does it matter to you that a candidate shares your religious beliefs? In Ohio, only 18% of them said it didn’t matter to them. The video mentioned all political leaders expressed their religious beliefs on the media, and so the show created a fictional candidate who clearly stated a strong line between government and religion. The topic is becoming more heated when the speaker in the third video mentioned Obamacare program. Obamacare program requires employers to provide their employees with health insurance plans. The coverage offered goes against some companies’ religious belief regarding abortion including drug, sterilization and contraception. This is where the policymakers need to take religion into consideration to avoid violating the religious beliefs.
I think religion can be included in the government in a good way. I believe humans need to know what is right and wrong already. For example, murdering and slavery are never right. What if there is a religion that says murdering is not a crime and slavery needs to be maintained? Will the government take it into consideration in the process of policy-making? I think each religion has its own reason to consider a thing right. As long as the reason matches human morals and is reasonable, the opinions need to be weighed. We need to be more open to new ideas, give sympathies to other people when necessary and be flexible to adapt to new things. That way, we can live happily together.
