Releasing/discharging/sending more and more CO2

But now, with more trees being cut down and factories releasing more and more CO2, this greenhouse gas is accumulating in the upper atmosphere.

Is "releasing" in the above equal to "discharging," and "sending out?" Thanks.

releasing and discharging are the more usual words for this concept, and either could have been used here. sending out (or even letting go or letting escape ) conveys the same idea, but you won't often find it used in this context. CJ
