"Relatively X-er"

Hi Folks,

I was just thinking about this sentence (and sentences similar to it) that someone wrote:

Although Bangladeshis are relatively poorer as compared to their Indian neighbours...

I was just wondering whether it's correct to use relatively + poorer in this manner....

I would have used the correct way to use it would be:

1. Although Bangladeshis are relatively poor compared to their Indian neigbours

2. Although Bangladeshis are poorer compared to their Indian neighbours.

- I got thinking about this since I thought that "Relatively" already meant doing a comparison to something else, so in this case, saying "relatively poorer" would be redundant...because if you wrote it as Sentence 1., it's understood that Bangledhis are the ones that are poorer.

So which one is right? Or are both right? Or is it better to write the sentence differently?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!
Tim
