Relative to and according to?

Hi, everyone.

Could you tell me the difference between the two sentences in terms of meaning?

Everyone will work according to his/her capacity.

Everyone will work relative to his/her capacity.

Thanks.

silak12 Everyone will work according to his/her capacity. This one is easier to understand. In careful writing, "his or her" is preferable to "his/her".

  • This one might be understood to mean the same, but it is less clear, or not such a good sentence, in my opinion.
