Relative pronouns

I need to know why sentence 1 is correct and not sentence 2.
1)We started the company in 1999 which was also the year i got married.
2)We started the company in 1999 that was also the year i got married.

1)I really like the apartment that i'm living in at the moment
2)I really like the apartment where i'm living in at the moment.

I really like the apartment that i'm living in at the moment.
These are awkward but fine, note the addition of the semi-colon though..

The first pair of sentences should be taken as: l. non defining with a comma after 1999, because "which was also..." is a further explanation. We started the company in 1999 is the main clause.
In the cases of the 2nd. sentence, you are using that and is non def. also, and that can´t be used.. That´s why it is incorrect. Only use the first one.
